November 30, 2021
This is a friendly reminder that you have a Health Spending Account (HSA) as part of your OSSTF ELHT Benefits. The HSA is set to expire August 31st, 2022. Don’t miss out on an amazing benefit available to you that so many of your colleagues have enjoyed.
If you’ve been using your HSA already, congratulations! You’ve seen just how helpful this benefit is.
If you haven’t used your HSA yet or have only used a portion of the $1,000 balance, then you still have funds available to help you pay for medical expenses that are not covered by the OSSTF Benefits Plan or other benefits you may have available to you.
What is a Health Spending Account?
A Health Spending Account (HSA) is an account that is set up and funded as part of your benefits plan. A one-time, $1,000 contribution has been made to your account. These funds can be used to reimburse eligible medical expenses for you and your dependants.
What’s so great about an HSA?
The best feature of your HSA is flexibility.
How do I use my HSA?
It’s easy! When you have a healthcare expense that isn’t covered or is not fully covered by benefits available to you, simply submit your out-of-pocket expense as claim to your Blendable HSA. We’ll make sure everything checks out and reimburse you accordingly.
Submitting a claim is three short steps and can all be done though your online Member Centre. Claims are paid in a few days and payments can be deposited directly to your bank account.
How does my Blendable HSA fit in with my other benefits?

The current OSSTF Central Agreement for Education Workers includes provisions for temporary enhancements to the OSSTF benefits Education Workers Plan. This temporary enhancement resulted in the OSSTF Benefits Health Spending Account (HSA) being implemented effective September 1, 2020 for OSSTF Permanent Education Workers who were eligible for benefits when the OSSTF Central Agreement for Education Workers was ratified, May 22, 2020, and at the implementation of the HSA benefit, September 1, 2020. As this provision was not included in the OSSTF Central Agreement for Teachers, the HSA does not apply to OSSTF Teachers.
