What do I do if I or one of my eligible dependents experiences a medical emergency while travelling outside of Canada?

Global Excel Management (GEM) is OSSTF ELHT’s out-of-country and emergency travel assistance provider that manages and processes your travel expenses. If you are travelling and need medical treatment, please contact GEM before seeking treatment if possible.

When you call GEM, their emergency assistance specialists will:

• Ensure appropriate care is provided by health-care providers at the location.
• Arrange payment on your behalf wherever possible.
• Share important information and the next steps related to your claim.

The goal of this coverage is to help stabilize the medical condition, and when applicable, help you return to your home province for continued medical treatment.

You can quickly and easily submit travel claims online via the GEM claims portal. The digital portal allows you to submit expenses, track the status of claims and estimates and upload supporting documentation for previous submissions. The site also includes travel and claims FAQs.

We cannot guarantee coverage as every claim must be assessed on an individual basis. GEM may request complete medical records to determine coverage. Your medical information will remain on file for no longer than six months.
