2021 deductions of summer premiums for those on a 10-month payroll schedule

To: OSSTF Members

From: Donna Morrison, Executive Director

April 20, 2021

For members on a 10-month payroll schedule, the collection of double deductions in May and June for summer (July and August) premiums is standard process. This means that to cover the cost of your summer benefits coverage, you can expect to have your summer premiums deducted on your May and June payroll in addition to the standard deduction amounts scheduled.

Some exceptions to the standard 10-month payroll schedule process may apply.

In order to accommodate school board requests for alternative collection methods of summer premiums from 10-month payroll members, we have worked with OTIP, the Boards and the Bargaining Unit Presidents to approve the following exceptions:

  • D5B Rainy River, TBU members – double deductions will be taken on the pay of June 25 (for July) and a single deduction on the first pay of August 30 (for August)
  • D15 Trillium Lakelands, TBU members – June deduction will be taken from June 15th pay, and then a double deduction (for July and August) from June 30th
  • D16 York, TBU members – triple deductions will be taken in June
  • D17 Simcoe Muskoka CDSB, EA and DECE members – double deductions will be taken on the pay of April 30 (for July) and June 11 (for August)

For members whose benefits plan eligibility ceases at the end of June, due to their retirement or cessation of employment, if deductions for summer premiums are processed, overpaid member contributions will be refunded by OTIP directly to the member.

For members on pre-authorized debit collection of benefit premiums, this does not apply to you as your premiums are deducted monthly from your bank account.
